Percocet Addiction?

Question by Diana: Percocet Addiction?
My moms friend took percocets for the past 3 years, she was in 2 car crashs the past 3 years that hurt her back and the doctor perscribed for her percacets. Now she wants to stop taking them so she can feel better and becuase it’s stopping her from being with her kids as much as she’d like because of her being sick. She doesn’t wanna see a doctor because she does not want to be put in a rehab and have her children be forced to stay with their abusive father & her abusive husband. Is their anyway you can take your self off of percacets without any help from a doctor? My moms friend has tried to before but when she did she got really sick and could barely walk.
Is their anyway to prepare your self for not taking percocet? And are their any diets or special vitamins that can help you during the weaning process?

This REALLY needs to be monitored by a physician. Withdrawls from narcotics can be life threatening. Please encourage your mother’s friend to seek medical help. Unless she is an active danger to (or passively by neglecting) her children, they will not be removed from her.

Best of luck,

Oxycodon (the narcotic ingredient in percocet) is very addictive. Without help from a doctor, it is extremely difficult to kick a narcotic addiction. She should first try weaning herself off of the dose that she currently takes – if she has worked herself up to 50mg a day, for example drop down to 45mg for several days, then 40mg, etc. Expect severe headaches and mood swings during this process.
