Xanax addiction/Detox?

Question by Gregory: Xanax addiction/Detox?
Hello there,
I have been on benzodiazepemes for about 10 months now starting out on ativan for a month then went to xanax and then to klonopin and now back to xanax which I have been on for 5 months straight and have had an absolute horrible experience with as far as withdrawls between doses and lots and lots of rebound anxiety. I am currently taking 2mg a day as prescribed and have been for these last 5 months, I absolutely refuse to get on a higher dose and am sticking to 2mg even when in bad shape. I want to get off xanax and benzos so bad its tearing a whole in my family life, I can’t work or go to school cause I’m like either weak and lightheaded all day or feel sick but mostly weak in the knees and lightheaded and dizzy all the time constantly, I have no money for rehab but can afford a really cheap possibly horrid detox near me but i am afraid cause they have very badI’m gonna need some atleast decent care to detox reviews and Iand my doctor is the worst so he’s no help he says its ok people are on xanax up to 8mg and to double my dose for the side affects. I’ve done my own research and maybe valium might be an option to taper off xanax then off that ultimately but my question is what would be easier detox facility or Tapering ? I am scared and mervous please someone help with any kind of advice I would really appreciate it thanks 🙂

Instead of going to a higher dose switch benzos every time your prescription runs out. This way your tolerance for 1 drug won’t sky rocket. But as for detox i don’t know because xanax is the hardest drug to come off of. But i’d recommend taking the detox. A life of disphoric visions and seizures can’t be worse than any detox.

Talk to your doctor about tapering. Xanax is the worst to taper off because its short half life so substituting with a long halflife benzo like valium is what docters reccomend then slowly taper down over a few months. Dont go cold turkey, dont drink and dont substitute with other drugs. Please just have an honest talk with your doc, im sure he doesnt want you to be dependant and will help you in any way he can. You havent been on them that long compared to some and you sound like you dont abuse them so i think you have an excellent chance at kicking the habit. Good luck 😉
